Low Tide setup guide

Everything you need to go from a fresh WordPress site to your own practice website. You need WordPress 6.6 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. No plugins are required.

1. Install the theme

  1. After buying, download the theme from the link in your Freemius email, or from your account page. Keep the file zipped.
  2. In WordPress, go to Appearance → Themes → Add New → Upload Theme, choose the zip file and click Install Now, then Activate.
  3. Enter the licence key from your purchase email and click Activate License. This connects your site to updates and support.

Have your licence key ready before you click Activate. If you leave the licence screen without a key, WordPress switches back to your previous theme. Test sites on your own computer (localhost) do not use up your licence.

2. Make it yours

  1. Practice name: Settings → General → Site Title. It appears in the header, footer and copyright line.
  2. Logo: Appearance → Editor → open the header, click the Site Logo spot and upload your logo (square, at least 160 × 160 pixels).
  3. Browser-tab icon: Settings → General → Site Icon (at least 512 × 512 pixels).
  4. Words: Appearance → Editor → Templates → Front Page. Click any text to change it.
  5. Your photo: in the About section, select the photo and choose Replace. For a round portrait, choose the Rounded style in the block’s Styles panel.
  6. Booking: change hello@example.com in the Contact section to your address, or point the Book buttons at your online booking page (for example Jane, SimplePractice or Calendly).
  7. Fees, hours and address: edit them in the Fees and Contact sections.

Important: the name, prices, address, wording and the person in the About photo are sample content for a fictional practice. The person in the photo is AI-generated and is not a real therapist. Replace all of it before your site goes live, including the crisis-line note (9-8-8 works only in Canada and the United States).

3. The opening film

The hero is a normal Cover block with a muted, looping background video. Phones automatically get a portrait version. The film pauses when it is scrolled out of view, visitors can stop it with the pause button, and anyone who prefers reduced motion or uses data saver sees a still frame instead.

To use your own film: select the hero, then replace the video in the Cover block toolbar. For best results, use a muted clip of 5 to 8 seconds that starts and ends on the same frame, under about 3 MB.

4. Colours, fonts and sections

  • Colour styles: Appearance → Editor → Styles. Three are included: Low Tide, Driftwood and Morning Fog.
  • Fonts: Fraunces and Instrument Sans are bundled with the theme, so nothing loads from Google.
  • Sections: every section is a pattern under “Low Tide – Practice” in the block inserter, so you can rebuild or reorder any page.

5. Add a blog

The theme’s front page is always your home page. To publish articles, create an empty page called, for example, “Writing”, then go to Settings → Reading, choose “A static page” and set it as the Posts page. Comments are off by default, because comments on a therapist’s site can lead people to share private information in public.

6. Updates, renewals and licences

  • Updates appear in Dashboard → Updates while your licence is active.
  • If a yearly licence is not renewed, your site keeps working exactly as it is. Only updates and support stop.
  • To move a licence to a new site, deactivate it on the old site (Appearance → Account) or in your account page.
